3.2.2 Making an Effective Introduction

1. Asking a question——A good question can quickly lead your audience to think along with you, and to become involved with your speech.

2. Citing a question（引用）——Take an example. Try to give examples of writers and scientists. We should avoid the example of politicians. For example, Trump and Biden and so on.

3. Employing starting facts or statistics——It should be provocative, amusing, dramatic, suspenseful, relevant.

4. Telling stories——Create one story that you think it inspries you to keep trying to do something.

Tips: calling: n. a strong desire or feelingof duty to do a particular job, especially onein which you help other people 使命感；（尤指想帮助他人的）强烈愿望，责任感。

pertinent: adj. ( formal ) pppropriate to a particular situation有关的；恰当的；相宜的。

AIDS: abbr. 获得性免疫缺陷综合征，艾滋病（acquired immune deficiency syndrome）

relays: v. to receive and senid on information news, etc. to sb接转，转送，转发（信息、消息等）

mold: v. ~A(intoB)1~B(from of A) to shape a soft suubstance into a particular form or object by pressing it or by putting it in to mould （用模具）浇铸，塑造
